There is no such thing as balance
Hey lovely!
A very happy Friday to you- I hope you have been well and enjoying March so far…if only it would stop pissing it down with rain. I am already itching to crack out and dust off my Birkenstocks *other brands are available.
This week I wanted to write to you about balance- I don’t think there is such a thing as balance. I believe that if we constantly strive to find balance we will drive ourselves mad because when we don’t have it we beat ourselves up.
We are constantly checking in- are we spending enough time with our partners, with our children. Am I smashing it at work, am I doing enough for myself, am I doing enough self-care, am I enough. Am I?
When you hear someone say- when one area of your life blooms and another area starts looking less fabulous, it can make you feel less than shit. Like we can’t have it all.

When, in actual fact we can have it all, if we know that we have seasons. We have seasons in our life where we focus on ourselves and may not be as social, we have seasons in our life when we focus on work and may not have the time with our children that we sometimes have, we have seasons in our life where we focus on our family and let our work life simply canter at the speed it needs to.
If we learn that we have these seasons, and check-in with ourselves. We can become better for it. Our mental health won’t suffer as much as before because the guilt won’t be crippling.
For example, you may be working the hardest you ever have, but you haven’t had any quality time with your partner. This is OK. You open up the chat and you explain that currently you need to work on X,Y or Z and in one month you plan to take a short break and would love to plan something in. You will then enter a new season where you will be more focussed on your partner.

Within every season, it is important to check-in with yourself and ensure you are working on your self-care. These are basic goals you are currently working on. As simple as: drinking a certain number of glasses a water per day to not being on your social media at the weekend or on certain evenings.
Actively working on basic self-care, while recognising the seasons you are moving through in your life, will ensure you are not striving for constant balance but in fact, making your life work for you. You really can have it all and learn to not burn-out.
Lots of love
Naomi xx
