When will I be enough
When will I be enough. When will I love myself enough. Be enough for my partner, my children, my work, friends.
When will I be enough she whispered through tears that started to spike in her eyes while the warmth of the tea rose from the cup between her hands.
There are times when she feels that she is just enough, more than enough. But then there are times when she feels that she will never hit the expectations she places on herself or the expectations society places on her.
Where does this constant strive to be more than she is right now stem from? When she feels as though she is doing all she can. When she feels as though she is meeting every single expectation from herself and society around her. Why does she feel as though she is crumbling into a heap of hopelessness.
She sits in silence. Her body slumped, her heart beating. Her shoulders rise while her hands grip the cup harder.
Her mind whirrs with noise. The noise starts to tingle. There’s a general fuzziness in her head. She can’t hear anything more than a general hum of activity.
Fear. Fear rises. Fear of never meeting any expectation.
Perhaps she has simply set the expectations too high.
Perhaps she sits on social media and scrolls through the constant noise. The screams of
“you aren’t enough”
“be more her”
“be more them”
“just be more.”
But what if she stopped to look inwards. What if she looked back at all she had achieved and how far she had come.
What if she stopped comparing and took the time to consider what makes her happy…what brings her love and joy.
What if she stopped scrolling and set limits.
What if she modelled self-love through grounding practices that bring her peace.
What if she turned off the news each day, most days, every day.
What if she looked around her and realised she has more than enough.
What if she realised that by looking inwards she was enough.
What if she used the energy she has to stop comparing, stop striving and simply live in the here and now.
What if she could just be.
Imagine the creativity, love and support that would come from sitting in the silence.
Suddenly the mind would be calmer.
The shoulders would drop.
The muscles would relax.
The body would feel safe.
Her mind would calm.
It takes time to step into who you are.
It takes time to learn to just be.
Take time darling one. Take this time to learn that you are and always have been enough.
