How to get started with Oracle cards
Oracle cards are such a wonderful way to tune into your support network around you. You can view these as whoever- your light workers, your devas, your angels, God, ancestors or loved ones who have passed.
It doesn’t make a difference with who it is you visualise and listen to- what makes a difference is how often and how you do this.
Tarot cards are wonderful too, but I personally now prefer a quick oracle card pull. The reason being that they flow and there is less structure. I love that there are decks based around a wide range of topics. This allows you to use your intuition a little more. I feel it forces you to go inwards a little deeper.
I have been working with oracle cards for about a year now and though that is a short time, I can promise you that it takes very little to get into the process of choosing and listening to the cards. The support they provide is beyond what others in your life can. This is because they are so personal to you, the time you spend with the cards allows you to tune into your deepest fears, wishes and hopes without having to talk it through with others to hear their perspective. This allows you to step back and consider what it is you are actually asking for from the higher realms and from yourself.
Such questions you may ask the cards could be around your personal life, your work life, parenting, marriage, family, a trip…it can literally be whatever pops into your head.
Sometimes we find ourselves in a time when life is throwing us massive curve balls and navigating these can be incredibly tough on your own. Taking the time to find some calm, reflect on what it is that has happened or you wish to happen allows you to sit with your thoughts and worries.
Then there are times when you are going through big changes and would love some guidance on the choices you are making. Some cheerleading, some support- a “you’ve got this” or a “take things slower loves.” The sort of things we would always love to hear from a friend.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to how you use your cards. That’s the case with anything you try- no two people are the same with how you work with something and no two people are going to interpret the cards in the same way. It’s all very personal to you.
If you decide to take the leap into buying your own cards then there is usually a little book which accompanies the pack and you can read more about the creator and ideas for using your cards.
A personal how-to from me:
- Take time to ground yourself through some breathing work.
- Your breath work could be as simple as slowing your breathing down and tuning into the air flowing in through your nose and down into your belly while then slowing the breath back out through the nose. In for 4 and out for 8.
- Popping on some music to help you go slower at this time is of use if you feel that would help otherwise complete silence is very valuable. I have a playlist that would help right here.
- Lighting a candle and tuning into your fave crystal would support your work here but is definitely not a necessity.
- Take your cards out and shuffle. Shuffling around 7 times is perfect.
- Split the pack into three piles and pop back together with your left hand.
- Sit with your hand hovering above or on the cards to set the question or intention. Really consider this in your mind. What is it you are asking your support network here?
- Move cards in a circle or lengthways and pull a card that you feel drawn to.
- If one card jumps out or is attached to the one you pull for example then definitely read this card too.
- Once you have read the card you could read the description in the accompanying book. Consider how it would apply to your situation right now.
- It may sometimes feel an odd card and that it may not apply right in that moment. If this is the case then take time to step back from the space afterwards and leave the card visible for you to work with over the next few days. It may also be that you find yourself needing to sit in quiet for a bit longer for the information to sink in.
- Take time before leaving this safe space.
I took the time to pull a card for us all this weekend and meant to share on Instagram but instead didn’t find the time and felt you would all appreciate the card:

“Do something to change your energy. Life is always moving. If you resist the flow you will become stagnant. One of the best ways to shift your energy is to put on some music. When we dance unrestrained our spirit takes over- every sway, move and kick allows us to be rocked back into harmony with the rest of life. Get unstuck by doing something that shifts your vibration. If dancing isn’t your thing then choose something else. You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it and you cannot attract a different experience without changing your energy first. It’s time to shift things up and find a way to dance a long with the beat of life.”

I love my animal cards here.
There are loads of oracle card decks. (I used to have Doreen Virtue but she has chosen a new path and personally I now am not as drawn to her cards but this is a very personal thing).
