Margate Pregnancy Shoot in the Woods around Dane Valley area. R was looking for a documentary-style pregnancy shoot in Margate. This shoot was celebrate her second pregnancy with her first born and partner. She wanted to be in woodland and foliage for her pregnancy shoot and Dane Valley was perfect for this. We chose the Christmas limbo to wake early and catch the rising the sun.

My Style

Within this pregnancy shoot, in Dane Valley woods, we chose to utilise the landscape. Capturing the tower block with the trees. This gave this pregnancy shoot a more authentic Margate vibe. Acknowledging that we were actually in the depths of an urban landscape.

We played with R’s dress creating a flowing shoot where we collected foliage in a trug. I also utilised a crystal with the space to create a more playful approach. We captured some purples and gentle blur as a result. I also utilised some slow blur by playing with shutter. R wore a boho dress over her bump teamed with a boho knit cardigan. Leaving her hair flowing with a simple slide. This gave us a more R stood between the sun and the moon- it was a gorgeous, gentle, grounded pregnancy shoot in Margate. A time I will treasure.

*We did struggle to find inspiration on Pinterest for this pregnancy woodland shoot so we were excited to collaborate and create this space together. I have included lots of our shots below as a result for plenty of inspo.

R’s Feedback for her Margate pregnancy shoot in the woods

“I wanted to document this stage of my pregnancy and our family growing but I didn’t want something that wasn’t authentic to our real lives- I wanted to feel like ‘me’ and ‘us’.

I reached out to Naomi and she immediately got what I was trying to (poorly) articulate.

We chose a familiar spot to us all, a place that may not be that glamorous but one that holds really special memories for my family and straight away Naomi saw the beauty in that place and us.

We caught the early morning winter sunrise in that liminal space between Christmas and New Year- pure magic! Naomi’s presence was by turns gentle, encouraging, cheerleading, funny, and fundamentally connected. She knew how to be at the right time to get the right response and shot. A professional.

Pregnancy can be a really tricky time when wanting to connect with your body as a woman- so many changes and sensations, secret worries and insecurities. Naomi made me feel celebrated and allowed me to feel I could celebrate myself (not always easy as a mum!).

What a joy to receive the pictures and discover myself all over again. To think- here I was, 37 weeks pregnant at this place and time and wasn’t I fabulous, beautiful, and just the kind of woman I’d want to be friends with?

I think the best kind of encounters are ones where you see something new in the world and yourself and my shoot with Naomi helped me see that I’ve been my own best friend all along.
