You Deserve More Mothering: Your Cycle Has Seasons

You Deserve More Mothering: Learning to Live

by Your Cycle’s Seasons

You’re fine. You’re fine. You’re fine. And then you’re not-snapping at someone over something that shouldn’t have landed that hard, crying in the car park, wondering what’s wrong with you this week. Somewhere along the way you were taught to push through all of it at the same pace, everyday, every week of your cycle, as if you’re not a cyclical being living inside a body that has actual seasons.

Here’s the thing nobody mothered into you: you likely didn’t receive enough mothering growing up, and as an adult you probably still don’t give yourself enough of it. Not because you’re failing.

Because nobody showed you how, and nobody told you that your cycle—your literal, monthly, hormonal cycle has a Winter, a Spring, a Summer and an Autumn, each one asking something different of you.

If you’ve ever felt broken for needing to cancel plans before your bleed, or furious at yourself for “not coping” the same way you did last week, this is for you. You were never unwell. You were just never mothered through your own seasons.

We All Deserve More Mothering

We all deserve more mothering, love, care and affection. But we have to give this to ourselves. We must mother ourselves into our adult years and understand what it feels like to receive, or what we want to receive in our lives because even if your own mothering was as close to perfect as it gets, you still need tools to sincerely mother yourself, to tend to all your parts and flow with receiving.

This isn’t about blaming your mother. It’s about noticing the gap, however it got there, and doing something about it now. One way in is leaning into the great mother, Mother Earth herself and the way she moves through her seasons without a sorry. She rests fully in winter. She doesn’t rush her blossoms before she’s ready. She teaches us the cyclical nature our own nervous systems are built for: the flow from dysregulated back to regulated, over and over, on repeat.

Welcome to the Four Seasons Hotel

Just like Mother Earth, you move through four inner seasons every single cycle and they may look nothing like anyone else’s.

Winter begins on day one of your bleed. You’re shedding your uterine lining, clearing the last cycle to make space for the next. It’s a nourishing, powerful time, even when it doesn’t feel like it from the sofa with a hot water bottle. Spring arrives as you build toward ovulation with energy lifting, oestrogen rising, that “veil lifting” feeling for a lot of us. Summer lands around ovulation itself. For some it’s full bloom, saying yes to everything; for others it’s oddly inward, as rising progesterone pulls you back into your body rather than out into the world and that’s just as valid. Autumn is the run-up to your next bleed, where frustration, tiredness or that “on edge” feeling can surface. It’s often mislabelled and over-medicalised, but it’s simply your body asking for something different from you.

None of these seasons are wrong. The problem isn’t that you have seasons, it’s that you were taught to ignore them and operate at one flat, relentless pace regardless.

Mother Earth Held Me When My Mother Couldn’t

I was at a weekly silent disco on the beach, moving into my body as the sun rose. Someone nearby had brought their mum along, and at one point I turned to see them wrapped in a cuddle. It hit me somewhere I wasn’t expecting. I’ve always felt as though I lacked mothering from my own mother. Not her fault she did the best she could with what she had. But I’ve spent a long time realising just how little there was, and how much I’ve craved holding, hugs and love without ever quite knowing how to ask for it.

A tear came, then more. I turned toward the sea, held myself in my own arms, and let the wind move around me. I didn’t have my mother beside me in that moment. But I had Mother Earth wrapping me in an embrace anyway: the ground beneath me, the sea doing what the sea always does, cleansing and holding without being asked twice.

Mother Earth is mothering me always. She’s mothering you always too: guiding, holding, teaching whether or not you were given that as a child, and whether or not you’ve learned yet how to receive it.

“You deserve more mothering.”

Your Seasons Mirror Each Other. Here’s the part that changes everything once you see it: your seasons mirror one another. Your Winter mirrors your summer. If you didn’t honour your bleed, rest, and let your body clear, you’ll often feel it as a strange lack of energy weeks later when you “should” be thriving. Your spring mirrors your autumn- rush out of the gates too fast in your spring, and you’ll often land harder in your autumn than you expected.

It’s not a character flaw when this happens. It’s information. If you’re slumping in what should be your high-energy season, ask yourself honestly whether you actually rested in the season before it, or whether you pushed through because that’s what you’ve always done.

You are cyclical, managing far more simultaneously than you give yourself credit for.

Seasons stacked on top of inner hormonal ones, stacked on top of whatever else is happening in your world that week. You deserve more. You always have, and you always will. What “more” looks like is something only you can feel your way into, slowly.

One Thing to Check In On

You don’t need a tracking app or a perfect system to start. Just ask yourself, right now, wherever you are in your cycle: what season am I in, and what do I actually need? Not what you think you should need, not what worked last month just what’s true for your body today. That single question, asked honestly and often, is the beginning of mothering yourself.

If You’re Ready to Go Deeper

Learning to live in rhythm with your body, rather than constantly overriding it, is exactly the work held inside The Gold Standard in Pelvic Floor Healing. It’s not just about your pelvic floor in isolation; it’s about coming home to the whole cyclical, seasonal system you actually live in.

And if you’re in the thick of early motherhood  trying to mother a small human while nobody’s mothering you the Postpartum Pelvic Floor Journey was built to hold exactly that. Because you can’t pour endless mothering out of an empty cup, and your body deserves to be tended to, not just relied on.

You Become the One Who Mothers Herself.

You weren’t given a map for this. Nobody sat you down and explained that you’d have four seasons every single month, or that needing to slow down wasn’t weakness but rhythm. But you can learn it now: not all at once, not perfectly, just one honest check-in at a time. Slowly, you become a woman who no longer punishes herself for having seasons. Who rests in her winter without guilt, moves through her spring at her own pace, and meets her autumn with compassion instead of shame. A woman who finally gives herself the mothering she was always owed.
