A womb massage cured my IBS

In order to train as a womb massage therapist, of course you have to walk your own healing path. The training was one of the most magical experiences of my life. An intense few months which at the very end brought me completely home into my body.

My IBS story is one which is ever so common but never in a million years did I imagine that a womb massage would cure my IBS as I knew it.

I spent my younger years struggling to eat between working part-time jobs. I always felt I didn’t fancy the heavier meals on offer at home but when you’re at home you kinda just need to appreciate what you are presented with.

When I was in my teens and left for university, my IBS went from bad to worse but this was 2007 so IBS was much less talked about back then. In my first few weeks of uni I was in a car accident as a passenger and my mental health plummeted. Alongside this, so did my physical health. The pains in my belly floored me. I ended up at a doctors complaining of pain in my tummy where I was promptly sent to a + e for suspected appendicitis. Fast-forward a few days on, I was lying in bed post internal peruse under local anaesthetic feeling pretty sorry for myself that the pain had gotten worse from being in the hospital but there were no other answers. A consultant strutted in and said they found nothing. I was lost. What could it be I asked with the tears pouring. I hadn’t had any external in-person support at this point from family either so was feeling pretty sorry for myself. “Sometimes people just make things up…just because,” he replied. He waltzed off with some junior doctors at his heels.

From this point forward I made a vow to stick with the pain and never bring it up again…until I ended up back in a + e a few years later working 70 hour weeks teaching. I was lying there on a drip and still no one could explain these pains.

A few days later I sat with a young dr who was just filling in at my surgery. She asked, “have you ever considered the FODMAP diet.” I was completely taken a back. Food? I.e. you think food could be the issue here. She mentioned how some foods can trigger pain in the belly.

I researched it all, bought the book. I cut out onion and garlic completely. I read as much as I could about IBS.

Since then, despite there being situations where it got worse then better then horrific again, I haven’t been back to the doctor.

I knew IBS and fertility were linked but I also didn’t realise how much until now post IVF. The things I wish I knew could go on.

I also had no idea that our gut and our emotions were so heavily connected.

One training day my massage partner was massaging my ICV. I had seen this part was to come and I had tingles down my body looking at the diagram on the print-out. This is the opening between your small intestine and your large intestine. As soon as she started massaging something I can’t put into words happened. In fact, I will keep the story just for me and the group as it was pretty intense.

Post training, I continue to massage this and work with this valve on myself as well as with clients.

Womb massage cured my IBS. I am now free of pains unless I over-indulge in garlic based meals, or digestive biscuits. I also pull myself back if I feel I am not grounded.

Within this area of my body I had trapped emotions that were very specific and started from a very young age.

We can work together if you are suffering from IBS or related issues right here. Your fertility is not just about making a babe.
